With all the rough riding and hard core off-roading we do in our Jeeps, we really need to have a way to protect our rides the best we can! One of the ways we can do that is by spraying on a protective undercoating layer that provides a few bonuses to our ride!
I’ve been running Jeeps for a while now, and I’ve made quite a few modifications since I started to seriously hit the trails.
Putting on a Boom Mat Protective Undercoat has made a huge difference in the way my Jeep sounds and puts my mind at ease knowing that it’s protected from the elements!
This is by far the best spray I have found on the market, with it being quick to apply and easily accessible.
I cover in this article why it and several other undercoating sprays are the best options that you could pick from. You will also learn how applying an undercoat is beneficial for maintaining the life of your Jeep!

1. Boom Mat Spray-On (Best Overall)
Boom Mat Spray-On is the Best Undercoating product you will find for your Jeep! It will have your Jeep coated and protected in only minutes!
Are you looking for a great way to reduce the road noise in your Jeep? The Boom Mat Spray-On undercoating does an awesome job at reducing unwanted road noise by filling in all the nooks and crannies that the noise can penetrate!
It fills in the gaps similar to other undercoatings, but this one really works! It is loved by many off-roaders, which is why I tried it out first and obviously, I am very happy with the results.
I am impressed with how well the undercoating has held up after hundreds of miles of offroading and driving down plenty of gravel roads! They promise it doesn’t chip or crack and I have yet to see any of my undercoatings do that!
One thing I wish I had read before spraying it onto my Jeep was how strong of a smell it has when sprayed. I was doing this project inside my garage and regret not moving everything outside to apply it!
2. 3M Professional Grade Undercoating Spray (Best Rubber Undercoating Spray)
3M Pro Undercoating Spray is easily the best rubber undercoating spray available, making sure your Jeep is safe and long-lasting!
If it isn’t your first time under a truck giving it an undercoat, then you are likely familiar with rubber undercoating sprays!
3M makes a hell of a product, the aerosol cans make it very quick and easy to apply! Once this stuff is applied it needs 6+ hours to conform and dry, turning into a thick and durable coating that helps protect your precious Jeep essentials under the body!
These cans are usable on more than just your Jeep. If you have any leftover (hah most likely not) from undercoating your rock crawler it can be used on household items, outdoor appliances, etc.
It is pretty unlikely that you will have any leftovers though. In fact, I had to run to the store to pick up some more cans of the stuff because I ran out mid-way through! Make sure to purchase at least a case of these cans, maybe two if you are planning on covering a large number of components!
3. Penray Rubberized Undercoat (Most Affordable)
The Penray Undercoat cans are a great alternative to buying the professional-grade 3M rubberized undercoating sprays. They are less likely to break the bank and still have a good quality spray to protect your Jeep’s undercarriage. This cost-effective undercoat is user-friendly with an easy spray aerosol can which makes its application dummy-proof!
Some of the perks of this spray are the waterproof layer that it provides and how well it holds up to being painted over. Nothing will bleed through this stuff, ensuring perfect black coloring on your undercarriage components!
At the same time, it will provide some sound deadening to help reduce road noise and create a comfier in-cab riding experience.
Unfortunately, these cans are harder to come by right now, and are sometimes hard to find in a local hardware store. They also don’t provide quite as nice of quality as their 3M undercoating cousins, but do well enough on a budget!
4. Rust-Oleum Rubberized Undercoating Spray (Best Rust Protectant)
The Rust-Oleum products were used in my house all the time growing up since they were an affordable brand. I tried them out because of my past experience with their products and that I read how easy to use they are!
Once I made sure the full surface area of where I was spraying was very clean, it sprayed on super easily! This spray does a great job as a rust protectant and provides a great layer of sound dampening material to help reduce road noise.
The only annoying part I experienced with these cans of undercoating spray is how long the cure time was. I saw a few people saying to let it cure overnight, but mine took closer to 24 hours between coats, which seemed a little excessive.
All in all, this product does what it is advertised for and does a good job protecting the metal from rusting out. It is an affordable option as well that can be used on more than just your Jeeps undercarriage!
5. Loctite Rubberized Undercoating (Heavy Duty Pick)
The Loctite Rubberized Undercoating provides a necessary layer of protection to the key components of your Jeep! Protect them today with this heavy duty undercoat!
I have used the Loctite brand plenty of times while doing different home projects and while working on several vehicles.
I thought I would give their undercoat spray a try and was pleasantly surprised! The cure time wasn’t atrocious like the Rust-Oleum spray and the finish was very durable.
I’ve taken a pressure washer to it several times since applying it and the coating holds up against the high pressure water without chipping or scratching at all!
It does a great job protecting my undercarriage and thankfully it is possible to paint over it once it cured since it doesn’t come out strictly black like the other undercoat sprays.
The spray was a bit uneven, but with a little bit of patience that turned out to be a non-issue and I had no problems getting everything coated and protected!
Like I said though, be wary of the end color and prepare to paint over it afterwards!
