5 Best Jeep Mud Tires (A Comparison)

1. BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM (Best Performance)

BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM
9.8/10 Our Score
  • High Performance
  • Less Road Noise Than Competitors
  • Smooth Ride
  • Even Wear On The Tire
  • Effectively Clears Tread in the Mud
  • Promotes Improved Traction
  • Difficult to Balance
  • Requires Frequent Rotation for Even Wear

BF Goodrich delivers a bad-ass tire that has a highly performing tread that gets you from point A to point B without any issue!

These Mud-Terrain tires from BF Goodrich are some of the smoothest riding tires I have ever put on my JK. The transition from off-road to on pavement very well, providing a fairly subtle road noise which of course increases as you go faster.

The tread on these things is quite aggressive providing impeccable performance out in the bogs or on the trail. BF Goodrich has put their special DiggerLugz in the treads and sidewall that help ensure better traction and provide plenty of structural support.

Another aspect of these tires is the way the tread is designed, it flushes the mud out of the treads so that it doesn’t just fill in and ‘bald’ the tires once they are covered.

The only downfalls that I have found with these tires so far are that I need to get them rebalanced more often than other M/T that I have tried. And the rubber doesn’t wear evenly, so each time I got them rebalanced I also got them rotated!

The Ironman All Country provides long-lasting Mud Tires that make off-roading more affordable!

If you are looking for a set of tires to get you started in the off-roading scene, then these are the right pick for you!

They are very inexpensive and come highly reviewed by my peers! A set of these will last you a few years of constant off-road use!

With a five-year warranty that provides security when you are waist-deep in the bog praying that nothing too hard hits your tires. Even if something did, these tires have sturdy three-ply sidewalls that can take on just about anything you throw at them!

Considering how inexpensive these tires are, they have considerably great traction even though they don’t have as aggressive of a tread profile as the other tires on this list!

The void rationing promotes self-cleaning treads that reduce the amount of mud that stays inside the treads and improves overall traction!

3. Nitto Trail Grappler M/T (Quietest Mud Terrain Tires)

Nitto Trail Grappler M/T
9.5/10 Our Score
  • Very Little Tire Noise
  • Aggressive Pattern
  • Three-Ply Thick Rubber Construction
  • Long-Lasting Tread Life
  • Tires Wear Uniformly - Unlike Some Competitors
  • Great for Offroad and Onroad Use
  • Tires Are Expensive
  • Tires Become Louder As They Wear Down

The Nitto Trail Grapplers provide a great in-between M/T Tire that also performs quietly on paved roads!

Do you use your Jeep as a daily driver? I do too! But that means that getting some heavy-duty mud tires can be a bit of a pain in town or a city.

These Grapplers are the perfect solution for someone who does daily driving in the city but is an off road weekend warrior. These provide very little tire noise in city driving while also rocking an aggressive tread worthy to take out to the sand dunes or some rough country riding!

Very durable with a three-ply thick rubber construction, these tires will take a beating and last just above that average 40000-mile mark.

Along with being long-lasting, these tires also wear out evenly which cuts down on how often you need to rotate your tires in comparison to the BF Goodrich Mud-Terrains.

As you get closer to the end of their tire life, they start to get louder which is a clear indicator that they need to be replaced!

  • Long-Lasting Mud Tires
  • Budget-friendly
  • Lower Road Noise
  • Great Traction In Wet Conditions
  • Incredible 60,000-mile warranty
  • Ride Assurance Allows A 60-Day Money-Back Guarantee
  • Not As Aggressive Treads
  • Lower Load Rating than Other M/T Tires

Pro-Comp delivers on making a durable and long-lasting off-roading tire great for Jeeps!

One aspect that lots of folks ask me about is how long will their tires last? It is a big concern that we considered when picking out the tires.

The Pro-Comp Xtremes provide peace of mind with tires that on average last over 60,000 miles. That is 20,000 miles more than the average mud tire on the market!

Longer-lasting tires mean they also have a less aggressive profile and won’t be able to tackle the most brutal bogs, etc. But for a weekend warrior that wants to have an extended tire life, they will work great!

If you live in a rainier climate along the coastlines, then these tires will be very valuable to you with their better-than-average traction in wet conditions. Most mud-terrain tires do not perform very well in rainy conditions on the highway but these tires work wonders in the rain!

Give these tires a try and if you don’t end up liking them or they don’t meet your expectations, you can get your money back within 60 days of purchasing!

5. Super Swamper TSL Bogger Tires (Most Aggressive Mud Terrain Tire)

Super Swamper TSL Bogger Tires
9.2/10 Our Score
  • Most Aggressive Treads
  • Famous Three Stage Lug Design
  • 31” to 54” Tires - Offering Large Range
  • Easy To Modify for different Classes
  • Very Durable Rubber Sidewalls
  • Used for Hardcore Offroading
  • Most Expensive Mudding Tires
  • Very Poor Gas Mileage

Super Swamper Tires are the most recognizable and Bad Ass Mud tires for Jeeps on the Market!

Are you are looking to do some hardcore mud bogging? Then the Super Swamper TSL Boggers are the tires you want to get hooked up on your rig. Once you look at these you’re going to wonder about the actual cost of a Jeep and how much extra you put into it to customize it!

They have the famous three-stage lug design that provides incredible traction in scenarios that should have virtually no traction. Built tough with very durable sidewalls there is nothing to worry about when you’re in the deep end!

These will fit on ANY Jeep rig with a huge selection in tire sizes, ranging from 31” up to monstrous 54” rubber.

These tires are DOT approved and are road legal, but I wouldn’t recommend doing much city or highway driving with these monsters on. They are very heavy and will drop your fuel economy big time.

Perfect for an offroad-only machine that has these on it permanently.

If you are going to be using them for highway use or any in-town driving, keep in mind there is going to be considerable tire noise and they will not last as long compared to just off-road use!

How To Choose The Best Jeep Mud Tires

Performance & Grip

A strong performing mud terrain tire has a distinctively aggressive tread pattern that allows for maximum traction. Another aspect to consider is if the tires flush out the mud themselves such as the BF Goodrich M/T tires do. Having a ‘self-cleaning’ tire will enable more traction in tough spots!

Versatility

Mud Terrain tires are used for many different terrains. Mud bogging, hitting the sand dunes, riding through that river, or crawling over some big rocks on the Rubicon Trail. These will provide the traction required to traverse those terrains! Just don’t expect your tires to last as long!

Comfort

Mud tires are often spoken about as being very noisy on the road. This is true when you get up to highway speeds, but all tires vary. The less aggressive tires will have less road noise while still providing decent traction in the mud and a quiet cab on the highway.

Durability

I’ve taken my Jeeps through some really rough areas. Big rocky outcroppings, tree branches sticking out that I couldn’t see, or hard-ass stones. Your tires are going to take a beating, so they need to be thick and durable to withstand it!

FAQ

Are mud tires good for daily driving?

Mud tires are only recommended for off-road use. They typically have lots of road noise and will wear very quickly at high speeds.

Do mud tires waste more gas?

Yes. Mud tires are much heavier than All-Season or All-Terrain tires which causes a drop in fuel mileage. This drop varies from tire to tire.

How long do mud tires last on the highway?

Typically mud tires last up to 40,000 miles (like lots of regular rubber) but will decrease depending on the type of driving you are doing with them.

What Can Jeep Mud Tires Be Used For?

Mud Tires are made to give you the best traction in the roughest of places! Going through mud bogs? You Need Mud Tires. Sand dunes? Mud Tires. Water Fording? Mud Tires. Rock Crawling? Mud Tires!

If you plan on doing anything off-road with your Jeep, you will need to invest in some great quality mud tires to keep you on the ground with traction.

Summing It Up

Choosing what tires you want to put on your Jeep can be a tough decision, but with this list, I think we have narrowed it down to five great picks.
